Biking with the Mayor

If urban biking is your passion, you'll be pleased to know that Mayor Betsy Price is committed to making Ft. Worth a "bike friendly" city. An avid cyclist herself, she and other town hall figures, fire and police officers join the ride with bike enthusiasts to see the city from a different perspective.

Although it's more about the ride than the politics, Mayor Price says when she rides the city, people are more open to talk about what is important to them. From pet shelters to city services, she's getting lots of input on the streets about how to continue making Fort Worth a great place to live.

Tour De Forth Worth is open to all cyclists and it's a great way to explore areas of the city you might not be familiar with. The next ride is Wednesday, June 6th from 6:00-7:30 pm. beginning at the Police and Fire Memorial on Seventh Street and although Mayor Price won't make this week's bike tour, there are plenty of dates still ahead.

Bicycles, Inc. located at 5125 Granbury Road, is another great place to locate group rides and join other bike enthusiasts. If you plan to enjoy the summer biking Cowtown or if you are a bike commuter, share your pictures with us on Facebook. We'd love to see our residents tearing up the town on two wheels.

Keep Your Car Safe!

With summer just around to corner, we are asking residents to be observant and to lock car doors and check to be sure items of value are not visible to thieves. Crime doesn't always stop with the car burglary. Often, confidential information is left in vehicles setting an ideal stage for identity theft or fraud. We want to remind you that there are steps you can take to help protect yourself and your vehicle:
  • Hide your valuables from plain sight
  • Lock your car and take your keys
  • If you have a garage, use it to park your vehicle
  • Never leave your car running – leaving your key in an unattended vehicle is a Class C Misdemeanor in Texas
Play it safe!

Main Street 2012 Fort Worth Arts Festival

It's a little gray and damp today, but the wet weather is moving out this evening and Saturday promises to be a glorious day for the Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival.  There will be a juried exhibit along with original works of art for sale.  In addition, there will be lots of performing arts to enjoy across a variety of stages and you can even take part in creating your own work of art, if you'd like. There will be wine tastings and scrumptious culinary delights to please every appetite.

To make it easier to navigate the festival you can download the Main Street 2012 phone app.  You'll find street by street location guides for stage shows, art exhibits, and festival vendors. Admission is free and coupons for food and goodies are $1.00 ea. with the average meal running about  $8.00 to $10.00.  Water is free, so just pack your bottle or buy a nifty one there as a souvenir for 9 coupons. You can pack a picnic lunch and head for the festivities by catching the The T, which picks up in front of Cumberland on Granbury . The #6T route goes all the way into the Intermodal Transportation Center in downtown Fort Worth and from there, the festival begins just 2 blocks over. Bus fare is $1.50, and no parking hassles!

This is one of the best annual festivals in North Texas, so take advantage of the sunshine, leave your car at home and have a great time this weekend at Main Street 2012 Fort Worth Arts Festival. Who knows--maybe you'll meet some neighbors while you're waiting for The T!

The Hunt is On!

We hear there are eggs appearing in unlikely places all over Cumberland on Granbury.  Check our Facebook page to find new riddles that lead to great rewards!   If you find 10 eggs you can redeem them for a gift card—or carry on the hunt until you find 25 and you’ll receive $100.00 off May rent.
Here’s your first riddle:
The first egg is green;  in a place not easily seen.  Look up toward your reflection and just reach out to grasp perfection.

Picnic Fare

The park will soon be crowded with picnic baskets and children waiting to scoop up colorful plastic eggs stuffed with candy.  The bad thing is, once the kiddos have the plastic eggs in hand, they are no longer interested in the real eggs they dyed the night before. What to do with all these under appreciated eggs?

We turn them into a tasty snack to take to the park with us. Deviled Eggs are a staple in our spring picnic basket, along with lean cold cuts, 5 grain rolls and all the accoutrements to build your own feast. Pickles, carrot sticks, chips--you name it, we got it. However, no matter what we pack, it always seems the highlight of the picnic table is those yummy (made with love) deviled eggs.

Here's a recipe from Paula Deen for Traditional Southern Deviled Eggs*:

Ingredients

  • 7 large eggs, hard boiled and peeled
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • Salt and pepper, for taste
  • Paprika, for garnishing
  • Sweet gherkin pickles sliced, for garnishing
  • Pimentos, for garnishing

Directions

Halve 7 eggs lengthwise. Remove yolks and place in a small bowl.
Mash yolks with a fork and stir in mayonnaise, pickle relish, and mustard. Add salt and pepper, to taste.
Fill egg whites evenly with yolk mixture. Garnish with paprika, pickles and pimentos. Store covered in refrigerator.
